Story of the Pattern: Dresden Plate was first saw in publication in 1920.  However, the pattern appeared in the center of 1785 Anna Tuels quilt. This proves that the pattern had been around for awhile but didn’t attract any ideas to stand alone until the twenties.  After being published the pattern was repeated and each quilt looks very similar to other families quilts of the same pattern.
