The original Star of the Bluegrass quilt was made by Margaret Rogers Caden of Lexington, KY. She entered it in the Sears Century of Progress quilt competition at the World’s Fair in Chicago in 1933. In competition with 25,000 other quilts, it was judged the most beautiful! The grand prize was $1,000.00. The quilt was then presented to President Franklin Roosevelt and his wife, Eleanor. It became part of the Roosevelt estate and cannot be located. The 2005 Version was painted by Nancy Claxon and her mother, Joan Litteral. It was hung by her husband, Phillip Claxon and his employees.
